Your Legal Residence is where you say it is! P.S. These instructions are only for South Carolina.

If You Say Your Legal Residence Is Your Parents’ Address

  1. mail Application to Vote to your parents’ County Board of Voter Reg. listed on back of the Application

  2. after receiving your Voter Card – mailed to your parents home – call the Board above to request an absentee ballotsee phone numbers listed below

  3. an Application for an Absentee Ballot will be mailed to you at your parents home

  4. fill out this second form, the Application for an Absentee Ballot, and send it to the Board above (same place you sent the Application to Vote, parents’ county)

  5. an Absentee Ballot will be mailed to you at your parents home

  6. fill out and mail the Absentee Ballot (to the same Board at the parents’ county) postmarked on or before election day

or

1 Winthrop University is closed on Election Day. Do step 1, then go home to vote!

If You Say Your Legal Residence Is An Off Campus Apartment or House in York County (eg Rock Hill)

  1. mail Application to Vote to York County Board of Voter Registration (see back of form)

  2. attach a copy of some proof of address, eg. an electric bill, bank statement (if you do not have this proof yet, you must produce the proof on election day along with you Voter Registration Card: note that your driver’s license does NOT have to have the same address as the Voter Registration Card)

  3. a Voter Registration Card will be mailed to you at your York County address

  4. vote Election Day at the York County precinct listed on the Card. Bring the Voter Registration Card and a proof of address (bank statement, phone bill, etc. – must have your name AND address) to the polls. Be prepared to defend your right to vote.

Note: Your Driver’s License does NOT have to have the same address as the Voter Registration Card. However, if you produce a Driver’s License at the polling site, and the license does not have the same address as your Voter Registration card, your vote could be challenged, so use the Voter Registration Card instead. You may still need proof of address – a phone bill, electric bill, bank statement, government document with your name and address on it.

Important Deadlines for All Voters

Postmark Deadline for Application to Vote is October 4th.

An Absentee Ballot must be in the County Board Office by 7:00pm on Election Day.

These ballots are available at the County Board office approximately 3 to 4 weeks in advance of Election Day, and you may vote absentee in the County Board office any time after the ballots are available instead of having it mailed to you. Bring proof that you are a student in addition to Driver’s License, Government Document, or Voter Registration Card PLUS proof of address.
